Hello Folks,
Who knew that a visit to the Puck 'n' Pint Sports Bar in Peterborough would have me staying in St. Robert, MO tonight on my way to Roswell, New Mexico ... apparently somebody or something did ... let me explain ...
Bobby Watson ... a great local guitar player and singer ... has a Tuesday night residency at The Puck 'n'
Pint ... I have gotten to know Bobby through interviews I have been doing for an upcoming book ... I go over every Tuesday night to video the performance .... it's always good ... but sometimes it's great ... and those great moments are magic we don't want to escape.
I was there just before Xmas ... the 21 Dec 2010 to be precise ... and I recorded all 3 sets of Bobby with the Crown Royals and The Wolfgang Brothers ... the Crown Royals being Jim Leslie on percussion and Jenny Jans on mandolin and Andy Pryde/Richard Simpkins on bass, et. al. ... the Wolfgang Brothers being Brian Wakelin on guitar and harp and Delbert Metherin on bass.
Brian asked for DVD copies of all three sets ... so I was happy to oblige ... as I was viewing them and editing then down, I picked something up on the video tape that I had not heard at the bar .... to set this up, Peter Boag, who had dropped in to play harp, and I were talking about New Mexico because he had lived there for a few years and I had brought up the fact that it was almost time for me to think about getting out of town for February.
As we were finishing that discussion off was just at the moment I started video recording for the second set .... look/listen for yourself ...
It starts just as we had segued into Roswell and UFOs because that come sup almost immediately when you mention think of New Mexico ... listen to the end of the clip ...a voice can be clearly heard asking, not once, but twice, ' ...have you ever heard of Phil Schneider ....?'
First, I don't remember that voice from the evening .... meaning I have no recall of somebody asking that question .... the second issue is a little more troubling ... if you were to go to the Puck 'n' Pint and see where I set the video camera up ... you would see that it is in a small alcove ... the camera mic faces forward and will capture side and front audio ... nothing from the rear .... the other thing is you can access the small kitchen on that side, but that evening there was no one there and it was blocked off for cleaning .... what I am saying is ... I don't know where that voice came from ....
If you Google 'Phil Schneider' you will get this ... I'll let you discover Mr. Schneider for yourself ...
I mentioned this to Peter at the next gig and he just scratched his head ... looked at me kind of strange ... laughed kind of nervously ... and changed the subject ...
It puzzled me .... and I thought maybe someone had a radio on .. or was playing a tape ... or maybe something on the digital jukebox ... but it doesn't appear to be the case ....
Around the middle of January 2011, I had just about decided that it was just one of those odd things that had a simple explanation that eluded me when I received an e-mail from a Phil S. ... it was actually in the Spam Folder and I was just about to cream it, when I caught the 'Phil S' sender id ....
Just to go sideways here a little ... I had been looking at places in California, Arizona and Texas for the February escape this year and had pretty well decided on a place in California ...
OK .. back to Phil S. ... I opened the e-mail and the only thing in it was a VRBO link .... I opened the link and it was for a house in Roswell, New Mexico .... WTF is this all about ...
I'll come back to this e-mail in a minute .... I pondered this for a day ... I didn't mention it to anyone for fear they would think I was a few bricks short of a load ... I finally inquired about the house ... sure enough it was available for February 2011 ... the price was right, the climate was right, it was close to everything I wanted to photograph ... I asked the landlady to send me a copy of the rental agreement so I could read it ....
Right after I did that, I received a Facebook note from my cousin in Montreal .... a note about Philip Corso's book on reverse engineering ...
No sooner do I read that link and look up the book then I receive a Fax'd copy of the rental agreement ... the landlady has made a mistake in the spelling of my name ... she spells it 'Philip' not 'Phillip' ... but it gets better ... instead of 'Connor' she has me as 'Corso' ... but that's not all ... the date on the FAX cover sheet and the date on the information sheet both match ... 8 July 1947 .... so we have three Phils it seems ...
Now back to that e-mail from 'Phil S' ... it was dated 8 July 1947 as well ... and it indicated it was sent from the Roswell Daily Record office .... the local newspaper ... you can see part of that newspaper here ...
After sweating over this for a day or two I booked the house in Roswell .... as Philip Corso ... the rental starts on the 1 February 2011 ... but there is something I need to do first .... something extremely important ... it's in Hobbs, New Mexico and I have to find it before I go over to Roswell ... it appears that something in Roswell is still trapped in 1947 ... if that is the case ... I need some insurance to make sure I don't become trapped as well ... more on this later ....
Oh yes ... the harbingers are out there ... they know in their charcoal winged flight that something is up ... I am willing to bet even they won't accompany me to Roswell ... no, not even they ...
To quote from verse 1947 of the Krome Koan,
'Do you believe in UFOs .... it is not a matter of belief ... it is a matter of evidence ...'
